ORCV Melbourne to Port Fairy Race - Strong winds hammer fleet

Inception experienceing 50 knots and thing are getting nasty! - ORCV Melbourne to Port Fairy Race Jennifer Cook
The crew of Trybooking.com are toughing it out along with all the other crews as the strong winds from the north west hammer the fleet in the ORCV Melbourne to Port Fairy Race. These strong headwinds have the fleet clawing their way, tack by tack, to Port Fairy hoping the wind will turn to the south west soon!
After a dream start with an overnight run in full moonlight - and with spinnakers set for the run along the Surf Coast in the morning - the crews were hoping to dodge the worst of the expected strong winds. After rounding Cape Otway the wind has been on the nose and has steadily increased reaching up to 40 knots and gusting to 50 knots at times.
Grant Dunoon, sailing on Trybooking, a 13 meter Elan Impression, said on his blog: 'We are finding it hard going, its a full on headwind. All we can do is hope for it to change to a south west, which is expected sometime tonight.'
