At Budworth Sailing Club, there was much stirring, like furry animals emerging from hibernation, boats and sailors peeped with blinking eyes at the expanse of the Mere. Was it going to be like last week, cold, very windy and lots of falling in and getting wet?
No — it was glorious, warm, bright and dry and 20 boats leapt out on to the water to enjoy a typically capricious days sailing at Budworth for the second round of the Scott Trophy Icebreaker series.
The Scorpion of visitors Jack Banks and Penny Jeffcoate continued their winning ways from last week, this week followed home by Eric Paalman in his Snipe and Russell and Vicky Page in their RS200 following some close racing amongst the RS’s.
The large flock of Snipes on the water included visitors Matthew and Catherine Stephenson with their Snipe recently acquired from Belgium and equally pleasing to see was Pauline Penny back after having snapped her mast last week. It is also not often that it can be reported that a Streaker was seen on the water —with Ray Woods achieving two solid 10th places.
After six races, five boats have qualified, the big question though is can anybody match Jack and Penny who now have four wins to their credit?
Again the new race management system proved its worth with the results available as the last boat came off the water.
The Budworth Scott Trophy Open Icebreaker series continues to run every Sunday through to 25 March 2012.
