Opening day for the Audi Melges 20 fleet at Bacardi Miami Sailing Week (BMSW) delivered three amazing races.
Under stunning racing conditions, class stalwart Michael Kiss aboard Bacio perfectly playing the part of resident superstar with a 1-2-1 score line to lead the overalls. Paul Reilly on Red Sky, also a class veteran, worked very hard all day to claim an incredible second place position, just ahead of Luca Lalli on B-LinSailing.com in third.
The races where short and sweet, approximately one mile distances with a steady and shifty 18-20 knots of breeze and the hungry-for speed Audi Melges 20 fleet had lots to play with upwind and down.
Kiss came on strong from the start, punching the line hard and getting ahead quick. Marcus Eagan on Cajun Underwriting, 16-year old Luke Mueller aboard Vaya Con Dios, Rob Wilber's Cinghaile, and Federico Albano's 3Menda made certain that Kiss did not go challenged.
Reilly won race two, with a heated battle to the finish against Kiss, while Lalli grabbed third. The final race of the day, delivered Kiss his second bullet of the event, followed by reigning Gold Cup Champion Alessandro Rombelli on STIG, Reilly in third, Lalli in fourth and defending Bacardi Champion Mary Anne Ward on M&M Sailing Team in fifth.
