Asian Sailing Championships - Seven races completed at Langkawi

The 15th Asian Sailing Championships have now completed seven races. There are a total of five different course areas within a two kilometre distance from National Sailing Centre, which is situated in the heart of Langkawi.

The venue is 'abuzz' with racing each day and 42 medallists in 14 classes will be decided when the racing finishes on 25 Feb 2012.

Blue sky, sparkling water and a very light shifty breeze, along with a fleet of young sailors concentrated on close competition provided a wonderful scene today.






Results after seven races:

Optimist (Boys) - The Boys fleet is led by Kim Ju Hyeong (KOR) with Li Shuang Shuang (CHN) in second place. Sarawut Phetsiri (THA) and Koh Yi Hun (SIN) share the third spot.

Optimist (Girls) - Chanian Poolsirikot (THA) leads the fleet followed closely on her heels are Lu Weiyi (CHN) in the second spot. Kamonchanok Kalhan (THA) and Phua Shynee (SIN) are joint third.

Laser 4.7 (Open) -Muhammad Farhan Bin Hamis (MAS) occupies top spot and. In second place is Ahmad Latif Khan Bin Ali Sabri Khan (MAS). Third spot is held by Teodora Ng Yin Ning (SIN).

420 (Boys) - Singapore's Tang En Ham /Yeo hold the lead in the 420 boys with Duk /Won (KOR) second tied on points with Choy Loong/ Ji Won (SIN) in a closely fought fleet.

420 (Girls) - And in the girls fleet Singapore are in command with Lin Min / Kiah Hu (SIN) at the front of the pack. Yokohama / Shu Xian (SIN) EW in second and Mawatari / Shintani (JPN) are in the final podium spot. This fleet is in another close battle for medal positions.

29er (Open) - The 29ers have debuted at the Asian Sailing Championships this year and 2010 Optimist World Champion Noppakao Poonapat / Dylan Whitcraft (THA) lead the fleet. Closely following her are Grelon Cosmas / Bradely Nathan(HKG) and Ganapathy KC / Varun Thakkar (IND).

470 (Men) - Ku Zamil / Hafizzudin Bin Mazelan (MAS) top the leader board in the Men's 470, Weidong / Daokun (CHN) in second and Thansoontorn / Butmarasri in third after an excellent day by the Chinese boat.

470 (Women) - The Women's 470 fleet is being dominated by Mengxi / Xinyan (CHN) with Afendy / Sayed (MAS) and Shuli / Yuanfang (CHN) in a close battle for the minor medals.

Laser (Standard) - Bualong of Thailand is holding off the chasing pack in the Laser fleet after strong performances from from Afendy (MAS) and Jinfu (CHN) who are fighting for second position.

Laser (Radial) - in a good showing for the host country, Nur Amirah Bt Hamid is leading Khairuneeta bt Mohd Afendy (both MAS) from Wei Yin (SIN).

Hobie 16 - Vongtim / Vongtim (THA) are dominating the Hobie 16 with Shing / Fong (HKG) in second and Al-Hadi / Al-Balushi (OMA) in third.

RS:X (Men) - Chinese sailors continue to remain in control with Yikai (CHN) and Guoxong (CHN) leading from Kwon (KOR) in a seemingly closed battle for the medals.

RS: X (Women) - The RSX Women's fleet is led by Jiahui with a small margin to Lo Sin Lam (HKG) and Chau Kin Ching (HKG) in the medal stakes.

Mistral (Men) - Ma Yik Kau (HKG) is in command in the Men's mistral fleet. Second placed Seo Dong Woo (KOR) is closely followed by Kong Ching Lam (HKG).

Mistral (Women) - The Mistral women fleet is led by Wang Shuija (CHN) with a very consistent sailing. Ma Ka Him (HKG) is in the second spot with Koe Sin Yee (MAS) very close behind in the third place.

Match Racing starts tomorrow morning with a double round robin. Medal contenders include Mahesh of India who has many Asian Championship medals under his belt in Match Racing.

Medals will be presented at the Closing Ceremony and Dinner on Saturday 25 February 2012 in the National Sailing Centre, Langkawi. It will be a spectacular evening with fireworks launching the exciting count down to the next ASC at Korea.
