With a rolling seaway (as you’d expect after a southerly change) and a glorious 15 knot breeze and Sydney Heads in the background, would you be anywhere else?

The Etchells Worlds 2012 started with the three committee boats hanging in the south flowing tide, which was 1.5 to 2 knots on the start line.

Murray Gordon (Hydrotherapy) from Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club won the first race from Tom King (Iron Lotus) and Jud Smith (Roulette).

The sky turned overcast and grey with storms coming in from the south.

In the second race Graeme Taylor (Magpie) was a close winner ahead of Vince Brun (Menace) with Peter Merrington (Odyssey) third.

Overall placings:

1. Graeme Taylor (Magpie) - 4,1
2. Tom King (Iron Lotus) - 2,6
3. Vince Brun (Menace) - 7,2
