In Doha, Qatar, Guido Cappellini's preparations for the season-opener have been temporarily put on hold after he was inured in road accident.
The Class 1 driver and former 10-times F1H2O World Champion was hit by a car while riding his maxi scooter on the way to the offices of the Federazione Italiana Motonautica in Milan in order to get his authorisation to obtain his super-license for 2012.
'A car cut me off all of a sudden and I couldn't avoid the crash,' said Cappellini.
'After an immediate check-up at the local hospital the diagnosis was a simple ankle break and chest trauma. It could have been much worse. Now I'm home, ready for a quick and effective recovery. The diagnosis of Doctor Costa, the best Doctor for these circumstances, is very relieving. There is no doubt about my presence at the first race.'
Dr. Costa confirmed that 'the fracture is compound, limited and the healing process is simple. We don't need to plaster it. An ankle bandage is enough. Some weeks with maintaining regular mobility and everything will be set. For sure Guido will be on the water for the first race.'
