GC Mayor hopeful Keith Douglas challenges councillors to save Tipplers

by Keith Douglas on 26 Jan 2012
Keith Douglas, formerly of Fishing and Lifestyle Party, now Gold Coast Mayoral candidate. SW
Gold Coast Mayoral candidate Keith Douglas has challenged the three councillors and mayoral aspirants, Eddie Sarroff, Peter Young and Susie Douglas, to demonstrate their leadership qualities by delivering on their undertaking to save the iconic Tipplers Tavern building.

The monies earmarked for Dale Dickson’s preferred option of converting the Tradewinds Building into a makeshift restaurant is all that is needed to save the building.

Career Employment Australia (CEA) is prepared to access State Government programs such as Skilling Queenslanders for Work to defray all labour costs.

'This means that the million dollars the administration is trying to extract from the public is no longer needed', said Keith Douglas. CEA has an outstanding record of accomplishment on the Gold Coast for restoring buildings at no cost to ratepayers and Councillor Dawn Crichlow sings their praises.

'The Tipplers purchase has been one of this council’s biggest scandals. None of the reasons they gave for wasting ratepayers’ money has stood up to scrutiny. There must be a hidden agenda, because this does not make sense. They use millions of dollars of ratepayers’ funds to buy it – and now they want to destroy it!

'Should I be successful in becoming mayor, there will be a thorough investigation – and that’s a promise.

'Public opinion is overwhelmingly in favour of getting Tipplers back and that means a return to the real Barefoot Bar and the ambience that made Tipplers the most popular boating destination in South East Queensland.

'If these three mayoral candidates can't rectify the Tipplers debacle while councillors, then they have no credibility to stand as mayor', said Keith Douglas.
