Royal Varuna Yacht Club Duncan Worthington
Catamaran Week will be an attractive regatta in Asia for beach cats. The growing interest in high speed catamarans in Asia means the regatta will provide an opportunity to feature the various designs of Formula 18 and Formula 16 Catamarans that are available to keen cat sailors. The Royal Varuna Yacht Club, Thailand, is one of Asia’s top sailing venues, and the aim of the event is to promote catamaran sailing as much as possible at Asia’s leading catamaran club.

The event will make use of the available and experienced resources at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club located at Pattaya Thailand. The Royal Varuna Yacht Club is an ideal family venue and the regatta format is designed to create a friendly and spirited atmosphere for catamaran sailors and their families.

Programme

3 February: Registration and Opening Ceremony.
4 February: 3 races around buoys.
5 February: 1 race around buoys, plus a medium distance race.
6 February: Long distance race around islands/ buoys.

8 February: 1 race around buoys, plus a medium distance race.

The emphasis is on 'fun sailing' but RVYC confirm there are at least six world multihull champions entered, and an amazing amount of high level competitors taking part in the event. The event is scheduled to take place 3 – 10 February 2012, and is set to welcome 55 entries from eight nations, with a total of 200+ people involved.

The event is designed to attract as many cat sailors in the world to enter, including local Thai sailors. It is easy to get to Club from all main sailing venues in Asia, Europe and Australasia. This means the event can be used to promote catamaran sailing worldwide as well as in Thailand and Asia.
