BT Boats Class40 Kiwi40FC ’Bodacious Dream’ sea trials in Wellington, NZ Oliver Dewar /Global Ocean Race http://www.globaloceanrace.com

Bodacious Dream is the third BT Boats Kiwi40FC that was recently launched in Wellington, New Zealand at Hakes Marine. Before Bodacious Dream exits on her way to the United States, her American skipper Dave Rearick, is taking the boat test sailing in Wellington Harbour.

For Lapo Ancillotti, Bodacious Dream represents the BT Boats ideal of an all-round, high-performance Class40: 'We definitely wanted to design an all-round Class40 and I had the feeling that most of the designs are fairly specialised, specifically for reaching,' says Ancillotti. 'We wanted to develop a boat that could be raced effectively in many circumstances, short-handed, fully-crewed, inshore and offshore and I think we’ve really achieved something.'

Watch this vid of the Farr Yacht Design Class40 undergoing sea trial and an explanation of the project by Lapo Ancillotti:

Bodacious Dream will be shipped to Florida, USA, and will compete in the Atlantic Cup before beginning the work-up programme for the 2013-14 Global Ocean Race.

Initiatives which blow preconceptions about sailing out of the water In these times it's all too easy to fall back on old adages about sailing, saying the costs are too high, it's elitist and things are in decline, but there are some incredible bright spots which blow preconceptions about sailing out of the water.
