Griffin Gully fishing platform has been extended to allow recreational anglers better access to one of Corio Bay’s most popular land-based fishing spots.
The Griffin Gully fishing platform was very busy at times with anglers keen on catching whiting, snapper, flathead, trevally and squid. The extended platform significantly increases the area available to anglers and improves access to deeper water.
Using $56,269 of Recreational Fishing Licence (RFL) revenue, the Association of Geelong and Districts Angling Clubs managed the project with further funding from the City of Greater Geelong.
In addition to extending the platform, the project also includes the installation of rod holders and a soon to be connected solar powered light. This will be a welcome addition for anglers fishing at night. The development of the Griffin Gully fishing platform is part of a recreational fishing facilities improvement program for the Corio Bay area, which is being co-ordinated by the Association.
A second grant of $9,897 of RFL revenue recently funded the installation of a solar powered light on the Grammar School Lagoon fishing platform. For more information about how fishing licence fees are improving angling opportunities
