With the summer season well underway the Melges 24 and 32’s have commenced the season with two spectacular regattas full of fast action packed racing at the East Coast Championships earlier this month and the State Championships last weekend.

North Sails has been at the fore front of both fleets with the top teams maximising their performance using North Sails latest designs and technology.

In the Melges 24’s the well known Bandit Racing Team skippered by owner Warwick Rooklyn who took out both regattas followed closely by the Nixon family team on 'Accru' skippered Kevin Nixon. They have both powered their campaigns with full inventories of North Sails.

This includes the latest designs of the J7 and J0 jibs, AP-3k Kevlar panelled main and both the Max Runner and Power Zone Reacher spinnakers. Not only have these designs won here in Australia but internationally the last 5 world championships have been won by teams using North Sails. This achievement comes as a result of relentless development in design, testing materials and construction by all the North Sails One Design Team worldwide.

Warwick commented at the State Championships at Lake Macquarie, during a Q & A session with the Melges 24 Group. 'Combination of the latest sails and the North Sails tuning guide easily allows us to easily find the right set up for the conditions and we are always on target speed from the start.'

In the Melges 32 the story is very similar.

North Sail’s 3Di sails have been introduced into the class and recently Goombay Smash won the World Championships with a full inventory of 3Di sails. Lake Macquarie Melges 32 owner Brad Sewell has recently invested in a new 3Di Main, 3Di medium jib and A3-3 Spinnaker which has proven to be a worthwhile investment as in his first Melges 32 regatta at the State Championships last weekend they were considerably higher and faster than all the other boats and were first to the top mark every race bar one.

Brad commented ' I really enjoyed sailing in this exciting new class and our new 3Di sails were slick and quick! Our plan is to keep improving and compete in Hamilton island race week next year.'

The class leaders in both the Melges 24 and 32’s Dave O’Connor and Billy Sykes are sailing regularly in the classes and are available to help out with any questions or tips on how to set up and sail these awesome boats.
