Monsoon Cup is the final stage of the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) and will take place from the 22nd to 27th November 2011 in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), the nation’s leading New Generation Communications provider and broadband champion, continues to support world-class events that reflect its performance-driven culture, ability to adapt to changing environments and welcome challenges – just like the Monsoon Cup.

TM today announced its role as the Official Telecommunications Provider for the Monsoon Cup 2011 thus earning itself the status of longest standing corporate sponsor of the event.

The Monsoon Cup is broadcasted live to 183 countries around the globe, reaching 1.6 billion potential households. This is made possible by TM which has been sponsoring the Monsoon Cup since its inception in 2005 by equipping the tournament’s media centre with telecommunications facilities which includes Internet access and fixed line telephones, providing communication tools, and providing ad-hoc circuits including satellite space bookings for live international telecasts. TM’s fast response is backed by experienced, highly-skilled manpower working around the clock to provide excellent service for the tournament.

'As Malaysia’s leading New Generation Communications provider and broadband champion, TM’s involvement in corporate sponsorship has always been one that supports both national and international events to put Malaysia on the world map. Supporting sports related initiatives such as this is also part of our Corporate Responsibility (CR) pillars in contributing towards the community and nation-building. By supporting an event such as Monsoon Cup 2011, we hope to create the awareness and spark the interest among the youths towards embracing sports as part of their healthy lifestyle. In line with our tagline of ‘Opening Up Possibilities’, corporate sponsorship provides the perfect marketing avenue for TM to build closer ties with its customers and partners. Connecting to our customers and partners via this platform has certainly proven to be an invaluable tool in building a stronger and highly reputable brand,' said Shahidah Ridwan, Vice President, Consumer Sales, TM.

Shahidah added that TM has always been actively involved in sports sponsorship and has stamped its brand association with football through its role as the official partner for the Malaysian Football Team with the recent signing with Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). In addition, as the Official Integrated Telecommunications Partner of Manchester United in Malaysia, TM’s sponsorship has benefited Malaysians especially TM customers by providing opportunities for them to participate in all Manchester United related activities organized by TM. Other sports related sponsorship efforts by TM include Le Tour de Langkawi, Jelajah 1Malaysia 2011, Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) and the World Muay Thai Challenge. In addition, TM has also supported the sporting fraternities’ awards event such as the ‘Malam Anugerah Sukan Negara’ acknowledging the achievements and contributions of Malaysian athletes.

'We are pleased to welcome TM as our official telecommunications provider as they play an integral role in providing the network horsepower for video, voice and data service throughout the event to ensure all races are broadcasted without a hitch. TM’s continuous commitment to Monsoon Cup is an excellent example of a world-class event and a world-class corporation working together to showcase emerging technology, provide necessary operational services, and create a great event,' said Dato’ Peter Gilmour, Race Advisor to the Monsoon Monsoon Cup WMRT website
