The VOR is underway and the America’s Cuppers are gearing up for a test in San Diego but, there is room left for some sociable sailing fun. The time has arrived for the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club’s annual celebration, The Turkey Day Regatta, which is set to take place from the 19-20 November.

Everyone who files an online entry before midnight Tuesday, November 15, will get $20 off. The entry fees include a turkey dinner Saturday night for every skipper and one crew---plus, all the winners will receive a bonus bird to take home. Other place winners will receive pies or game hens.

Will the Volvo crews have it that good en route to the Southern Ocean?

Sailing for turkeys instead of trophies has been an ABYC holiday institution since 1948, drawing the largest turnouts of the year with competitors from throughout California, plus other states and foreign countries. Last year there were 350 sailors of all ages on 228 boats in nineteen classes.

Lido 14s and singlehanded Naples Sabots will be on the inside bay while keelboats, skiffs and catamarans that didn't make it to San Diego will race on two courses on the ocean and outer harbor.

Racing will start at noon each day, conditions permitting. All classes are scheduled for seven races but not more than four on a single day.

Parking at ABYC at the end of the Ocean Blvd. peninsula will be extremely limited, but a cable car trolley shuttle will provide free transport from the Claremont Place parking lot just up the road.

For boat launching details see items 10 and 11 in the Notice of Race .
