Melges 32 Barcelona Winter Series supported by Merchbac

by Alfredo Mella on 27 Oct 2011 The Melges 32 Barcelona Winter Series now has less than a month until the start of Series 1 in Barcelona City and in order to organize it, the Real Club Nautico De Barcelona has just signed a collaboration with the financial group Merchbac who is the main sponsor for the event.

The agreement between Mr. Enrique Corominas, president of the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona and Mr. Jose Isern, General Director of Merchbanc, give the general lines that what we can see in the Merchbanc Barcelona Winter Series.

The Merchbanc Barcelona Winter Series will be running by four Series, one every month, from November 2011 to February 2012. The schedule will be one official training day on Friday with an official training race, and two racing days, Saturday and Sunday, with a max of six races for series, and a total of 24 windward- leeward for the event.

At the moment, there are ten boats and teams who confirm participation in the Merchbanc Barcelona Winter Series, like the Spanish Bribon-Movistar, Gunter, and Olimpia. English teams include Red and Highlife along with Italians Fra Martina, Atlantica and Germans Immac, and Japanese Bros. There could be more Spanish teams to join the event.

Merchbanc Barcelona Winter Series are the continuation of a really special season for Melges 32 in Spain, after the success of Copa del Rey and the World Championship, with this event in Spain, it aims to be one of the principal centers of Melges Performance Boats in Europe.

'Merchbanc Barcelona Winter Series is and internal activity that we create in combination with Real Club Nautico de Barcelona with Merchbanc like principal sponsor, our Goal is to have a fantastic circuit in winter for the Melges 32 class to give to the teams the possibility to train, improve to prepare the season, and try to create a new fleet of this fantastic boat here in Spain. This first year, will be really good, because there will participate some of the best teams of the class.
