Star European Centennial Celebration Regatta 2011 SNST
The Star boat is a two person Olympic one-design racing keel boat. Her durability is unique in the sailing history as she was designed in New York in 1911 by Francis Sweisguth.
The Star boat rapidly became a very fashionable yacht with her modern rigging proposed by the very strong owner’s association, International Star Class Yachting Racing Association (ISCYRA).
Thanks to her design qualities she quickly became an international success that most top sailors wanted to sail. Many America’s Cup skippers are or were Star boat fans. Among them, Dennis Conner, Paul Cayard, Tom Blackaller, Enrico Chieffi, Buddy Melges, Pelle Peterson, Colin Beashel, Torben Grael, Iain Percy were all Star World Champions.
If you race a Star boat regatta, you may race against world champions, Olympic medalists and week-end racers from 7 to 77 for fierce and hotly disputed competition.
Star mindset is a mix of highly technical practice and a very strong camaraderie between class members.
The International Association of people practicing Star, International Star Class Yacht Racing Association (ISCYRA), and its French domestic arm – ASPROSTAR – decided to celebrate the Star centennial with a huge sport event where we expect to see around a hundred Stars mainly coming from all around Europe but also coming from USA and Brazil. We will be competing and celebrating for four days and the class chose St Tropez to host the event. One of the most famous celebrating place in the world for a boat that is close to a myth: What else?
The SNST, Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez will host and organise the event and races will be held in the Golfe de Saint-Tropez, October 20-23. More than 100 Stars are registered to
