RS Feva Open at Island Barn SC

by Lindy Prescott on 9 Oct 2011
SW
RS Feva Open was held at Island Barn Sailing Club on Saturday October 8th 2011.

The club welcomed eleven boats to a cold winters day with hats and gloves replacing the shorts and T-shirts of the previous week!

The first race started in a force three to four. Samuel Grade crewed by Katie Prescott lead the race from start to finish, followed by local club member, James Curtis and Harry Phelps, and third, Anna Prescott and Jess Eales.

Sisterly love was now forgotten for the second race, with Anna and Jess taking the gun, followed by Samuel and Katie and James and Harry third..

After a lunch break, the boats returned to the water with the wind gradually subsiding. Anna and Jess again pulled out a good lead, followed again by Samuel and Katie, second and James and Harry third.

Race four provided a new leader. Matt Hill and Joe Reeve lead from start to finish, to have the girls chasing in second and Samuel and Katie third.

It was the final fifth race to decide the winner. If Samuel won, he would take the chocolates. After an exciting race between the pair, Anna and Jess took the gun just a boat length ahead of Samuel and Katie. Courtney and Orla put in a fantastic race to come a well deserved third.

After five races the final results, after one discard were:
1st Anna Prescott / Jess Eales 5 pts
2rd Samuel Grade / Katie Prescott 7 pts
3rd James Curtis/Harry Phelps 12 pts
4th Matt Hill / Joe Reeve 13 pts
5th Courtney Bilbrough / Orla Mitchell 19 pts

A big thank you to Island Barn for putting on an excellent event and for the great cooking behind the gallery – the parents and sailors voted it top RS Feva Class Association website
