Touch 'n go for Leasecorp Gosford to Lord Howe record.

by News Editor on 29 Oct 2000
AFR Midnight Rambler has consolidated its IMS Handicap lead in the Leasecorp Gosford to Lord Howe race during today.

John Quinn's Cole 43 Polaris of Belmont moved into second place on IMS handicap as Occasional Coarse Language some 30 miles closer to Lord Howe slowed in the easing weather conditions.

Love and War and Mark Twain similarly benefited.

Eureka, the new Sydney 60 with Hugh Treharne's sailing school crew is 50 miles ahead of Midnight Ramber and is in theory still on race record pace, but speeds are dropping as the low pressure system is moving away and she would need to finish around before 5.20am to beat Helsal II's 12 year old record.

On PHS handicap the second sailing school crew on Shane Kearn's Komatsu Blue Lady moved closer to the 25 year old New Zealand boat Fidelis.

Overnight as the entire fleet is influenced by the lighter conditions, today's gains may disappear. The next radio schedule is not until 7am and by then Eureka may have reached the Island lagoon.

However progress during the next 12-14 critical hours can be followed with sail-world.com's tracking.
