October brings to close one season with the final Open Meetings and sees the start of the preparation for the next with the formation of the new training squads.
Open meetings at Barnt Green and Fishers Green take place this weekend, although the 'Indian Summer' has brought little wind to the two inland venues. A day of racing for juniors of all abilities is planned by Barnt Green with three races scheduled. Fishers Green's meeting has been moved to King George reservoir because of an extremely aggressive growth of Canadian Pondwed. Four races are scheduled. This meeting is also the final event of both the Ian Craig Trophy sailed at inland clubs and the Mailspeed Marine Eastern Area Series.
Four teams comprising Cadets and ex-Cadets have entered the RYA Eric Twiname Team Racing championship at Oxford Sailing Club on 15th/16th; two in the junior event and two in the youth. With 24 teams in each competition, an intensive and highly competitive weekend is in prospect.
Half-term sees the first elements of both the RYA National Junior Squad and UKNCCA National Squad programmes, with the former at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and the the latter at Castle Cove S
