by PSA Media on 25 Sep 2011

There is a lot happening on the Australian and World Laser scene right now.

This will be the most active summer on the Australian Laser scene in the last decade and we look forward to seeing you at events around Australia.

Did you know there are 139 Laser clubs across Australia and over 4000 Lasers sail every weekend in Australia. Country Wide Dealer Service New and Trades welcome.

The Class is booming from 4.7 to Radials and Standards with the Masters continuing to grow. As one well known keelboat sailor said recently to us... 'It does not matter what class you sail, you always have a Laser in your quiver.'

Below we bring you the latest news and a wrap of the key stories from recent months. There are some special opportunities this summer to get into a new or almost new Laser at great prices.

Contact our dealers across Australia and New Zealand, who sell new and trade in Lasers and provide countrywide sevice.

Team PSA

PSA Lasers available for sale and lease Pre-Perth, ex Perth 2011 and for 2012

At the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships being held between Saturday third and Sunday 18th December 2011, by the far the largest fleet in combination will be the Laser Radial and Laser Standard.

Performance Sailcraft (PSA) has been producing Lasers since 1973 and as CEO Chris Caldecoat explains ‘This is our biggest year ever, a lot of the top competitors in the world have been buying Lasers to race on the Australian East Coast and to use in practice in Perth and will then sail them post Perth 2011.’

‘The 275 competition boats for the Men’s and Women’s world titles we have supplied are being leased to the sailors, an essential part of the Laser competition. The Lasers have been measured and certified already ahead of the world championships The boats aren’t just a bare boat. The Lasers are complete with sail, with sail numbers, with deck covers, on a dolly with foil bags, mast bags, you name it.

'At the end of Perth 2011, there will be 100 boats available for sale, they will come with the top cover, the foil bag, the dolly, the mast bag, the standing rigging has not been used. They will have the event sail and they will also have a new sail for the same price as a new boat.

'‘It’s a great package. The boats only just really used and you get a brand new sail and all that kit. You are getting nearly $2,500 worth of kit added to the boat.

‘The residual 175 boats then get packed up and be shipped to Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron where they wait for the Master Worlds in March to be used for that event. We will top them up with new boats from the factory, so there will be up to 250 boats available for charter.

‘After that they will be available for the Radial Open and the Radial Youth Worlds at RQ again in July and in between that we have got the Australian Master Nationals leading into the Australian Master World Championships in March and then we have the Asian Pacific titles leading into Youth Week that then goes into the Radial Youths and Radial Mens Worlds.

Have a look at the upcoming Laser event calendar and decide if it's time YOU stepped up to the plate with a new or near new Laser.

Here is the event list:

2011 Sail Melbourne from 6–12 November 2011 at Sandringham Yacht Club
2011 Sail Brisbane from 16-19 November 2011 at RQYS

Its obviously a huge Laser year for us and we have picked up a lot of new sailors. The Sabo and Opti jump into Laser is very apparent. It has been fantastic over winter.

But the growth is not just with Lasers, the RS100 guys are planning their first get together regatta, possibly a Nationals at Lake Macquarie over Australia Day long weekend. We are expecting up to 15 boats for that.

The RS100 is getting great reviews world-wide. There are two of those reprinted below.

The RS200 fleet is expanding at Blackrock Sailing Club in Melbourne - its proving to be a great two person boat.

And another important subject - PSA is looking for new manufacturing projects

Chris Caldecoat, PSA’s CEO explains ‘‘Overall PSA is well positioned, it has plenty of manufacturing capacity, is has an excellent distribution network and is looking at a lot of new projects.

'PSA has been manufacturing dinghies for almost three decades and we have significant experience in small boat manufacture.

'Our new factory in Ourimbah has delivered increased manufacturing capacity and the continuing free trade, duty free export into USA, South America and Asia has PSA looking at further product and brands for manufacturing and distribution

'There are a lot of opportunities in the marketplace and we are in the position to grow our business.

'Our manufacturing capabilities have lifted to a new level of advancement and our overall daily output has grown significantly.'

Current Classes or companies looking at new projects should contact us.
