KUALA LUMPUR (14 September 2011): T-Best Events, the organisers behind the hugely successful World Match Racing Tour event, the Monsoon Cup, recently released their in-house publication, the hardcover coffee-table book, Monsoon Cup 2010: The Memories. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin will officiate the launch of the coffee table book, which chronicles the history of the Monsoon Cup and its impact on the Malaysian sailing scene.

The book is timely as so much has been accomplished by the Monsoon Cup over the last six years from the beginning in 2005, when former Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi guided the ground-breaking ceremony of the opening of Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort & Spa; to 2010 when Monsoon Cup was recognised for its achievements at the World Match Racing Tour Awards.

Monsoon Cup 2010: The Memories provides a fascinating glimpse into how the yacht race grew from a simple vision into an internationally acclaimed event. Captured through stunning images and inspiring blurbs, each page is an account of Monsoon Cup’s voyage of sailing the dream. As you cruise through the book, soak up the sights, enjoy the adventure and experience the myriad of emotions seen in a people consumed by a love and passion for sailing. All these have been skilfully photographed by Sub Zero Images, Slick Angle Studio and Markless Photography in pictures that paint a thousand words and bring a million smiles.

Monsoon Cup 2010: The Memories also recognises those whose endeavours have contributed to the growth and development of sailing in Malaysia. From the country’s Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib to Malaysia’s regal sailing champion, our very own King of Malaysia, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, the energetic Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Datuk Sri Ahmad bin Said, Chief Minister of Terengganu and many more, whose support has made the sport what it is today. The spirit of sailing comes alive in this book that brings with it a hope and a bright future for sailing.

Chairman of T-best Events, Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik said, “We are proud to have published a book that is a photographic celebration of what Monsoon Cup has achieved. Monsoon Cup 2010: The Memories is a tribute to the people who have dedicated their lives to the development of the sport of sailing in Malaysia. We celebrate their passion, we recognise their success, and we document their unforgettable moments in this special publication. This book illustrates our national ambitions presenting Malaysia as a young, energetic and very vibrant colourful country.”

Note: Monsoon Cup 2010 The Memories is priced at RM148.90 and is available at all major bookstores nationwide.

Grabbing chances with both hands
Can bad weather actually lead to more sailing? There's been no getting away from the fact that it's been a pretty miserable start to 2024 weather-wise in the UK. February saw record rainfall (yes, I know we're famed for our rain over here), it's been seriously windy and generally chilly.
