East Asia Composites launching projects and winning new business

by Greg Boller on 13 Sep 2011 East Asia Composite 'EAC' will soon launch the first boats for two high profile projects. Two FRB13 VIP mark boats commissioned by America’s Cup Race Management will be launched with four more to follow closely behind and the first of the newly designed Soto 30 racing yachts will be leave the EAC factory.

Commissioned in March 2011, the six custom designed 13.5metre power catamarans will become centrepieces of AC45 World Series action in their role as VIP mark boats. The AC45 race fleet will race around the Volvo IPS 450 powered FRB13 Power cats, which are fitted with state of the art electronics packages. One facet of these packages will be the use of remote dynamic positioning technology that will allow the boats to be accurately positioned on course without anchoring and in concert with each other.

The completion of the fully infused FRB 13’s will represent an important milestone for Paul Scholten and Greg Boller who started EAC, as a wholly foreign owned OEM FRP facility in Zhuhai, Southern China in late 2010.

Scholten commented that 'the success of securing this high profile build only months after commencing operations was very satisfying and we are very happy with the progress to date. The full fit out project has tested our young company and we are very proud of the quality and speed of workmanship that our Chinese build team have delivered'. Scholten who has 25 years experience in Composite construction and factory management also said that this project has proven EAC’s capability and readiness to take on challenging projects.

As an OEM manufacturer EAC established itself to offer manufacturing services to any industry seeking FRP parts. This has seen the company win OEM build contracts for power boat production, racing yacht production, bus part production and an architectural project.

The Soto 30 is a very exciting project. EAC have undertaken the plug and mould build and are now finalising the first yachts for export. Commissioned by M Boats of Argentina the Soto 30 is the younger sibling of the hugely successful Soto 40’s.

EAC operates from a custom built 4000sqm facility that includes CNC machines, woodworking shop, stainless steel fabrication, paint booth, oven, air conditioned laminating rooms and other facilities that ensure a complete service can be provided to its customers.
