The Solo Southern Championship, a new event for the National Solo class, was held at Bewl Valley Sailing Club on Saturday 3rd September 2011.

The entry was impressive with 45 boats competing in a four race day. The entry and the venue looks good for the future of this Championship in the years to come.

After an early morning mist, the sun broke through to give a perfect sailing day with a SSW force two to three wind. The starts were all keenly contested but from an early stage the front runners quickly emerged with first place in each race going to four separate boats. In race one Pete Mitchell (RYA) 5219 took the lead at halfway and held on to win, Ian Pinnell(Northampton SC) 5192 second and Michael Sims (Carsington SC) third.

The second race was dominated by Nick Davies (Draycote Water SC) 5139,with Ian Pinnell second and Michael Sims third. Race three was led from the first mark for a win by Michael Sims, Richard Willetts (Burghfield SC) 5232 pulled up on the second beat to take second with Chris Brown (RYA) 5210 third. The final race saw Mark Maskell (Blackwater SC) 5012 lead from start to finish, Chris Brown second and Pete Mitchell third.
