Earthquake Appeal- Fundraising for Windsports community nears $2000

by Bruce Spedding on 4 Sep 2011
Steve & Adrienne had only just returned from the National Slalom event in Dunedin, as had many others from Christchurch. - Christchurch earthquake Anthea Dunning

The Windsurfing NZ fundraising for the Christchurch Windsports community is approaching $2000. The final amount will be presented to the CWA at the Lake Clearwater weekend event in November so there is still time to contribute.

Windsurfing NZ representatives will be presenting the total amount raised to the Canterbury Windsports Association on the 12th November at the Clearwater ‘Cup Day’ Weekend event. There will be a group traveling up from Dunedin to be involved in this great social event. Camping on the lakes edge together.

It has been a very difficult time for most if not all of the windsurfing fraternity in Christchurch. Some of them losing their whole house and everything in it, others not even having access to their windsurfing equipment for some time before they were allowed to go back and rescue the few things that they could. It is only now (after nearly 1 year following the initial event) and in the next few months to come, that some of the waterways that they use so much, are going to be declared safe to use. The Estuary still not open!

Currently the total amount raised is $1823.25

The final total amount will be presented to the president of the CWA Russell Mathieson as per the above date and location.

It is hoped there will a representatives of the other clubs from around NZ at the event to show support in a more physical way also.

If you know of any other avenues for some more donations could you please pass this on to those that might be willing to contribute.
