Protect your eye's with Spotters Platinum

Spotters frames are extremely comfortable. - Protect you eye's with Spotters Platinum Jarrod Day
When it comes to fishing, being outdoors for hours on end can be harmful to your eyes.

The same harmful rays that damage skin can also increase your risk of developing eye problems, such as cataracts.

In the short-term, people who spend long hours on the water without adequate eye protection can develop photokeratitis, an irreversible sunburn of the cornea. This painful condition can result in temporary loss of vision. When sunlight reflects off water it further increases exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Everyone is at risk for eye damage from the sun year-round. The risk is greatest from about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fishermen, who spend time in the sun for extended periods are at highest risk.

With this in mind, wearing sunglasses will prevent long term damage to your eyes. Spotters, an Australian sunglasses manufacturing company have developed a wide range of sunglasses to prevent anglers from long term sun damage to their eyes with a variety of lenses and frames available.

While their designs have been well received in the fishing community, it is their latest lens that is worthy of a closer look.

Released at the AFTA (Australian Fishing Tackle Association) show on the Gold Coast August 2011, Spotters latest release is the Platinum Silver Mirror Crown Glass lens.

Amongst a plethora of other glass lenses, the Spotters enhanced Platinum lens is comprised of a Superior Crown glass combined with a protected Silver foil leaf, making it impossible to be scratched off.

The Platinum lens shields your eyes by not permitting the suns high temperature and glare to fully penetrate into your eyes. Extreme glare is taken to task by the Platinum lens by deflecting bounce back glare.

Handled with precise attention to detail the Platinum lens Polarising is set precisely on axis and hand fitted by Spotters master optical technicians, offering true full polarisation, eradicating hindering bounce back glare.

Only the best distortion free Crown glass is used, which is resistant to thermal shock, stress and expansion. The Platinum lens is the most durable glass material available and offers superior optics. Spotters Platinum lens boasts greater enhanced definition than the naked human eye in extreme glare situations.

Damaging short blue light waves which attack the front of the retina are mostly vaporized by the high contrast copper lens allowing your eyes to focus through softer light for sharper and greater field of vision.

For anglers, this prevention from the suns UV rays on entering the eye’s is as important as protecting you from Skin cancer.

Apart from preventing eye damage, Spotters lenses are all polarised. Polarised lenses eliminate glare and in the world of fishing this is detrimental.

Whether you’re fishing in the Blue water or stalking a trout in crystal clear water, polarised lenses will remove the suns glare from the water’s surface allowing you to see beneath the surface.

In freshwater situations, this couldn’t be more important as often trout are quite spooky and see you before you see them. Wearing a pair of spotters will have the opposite effect allowing you the upper hand allowing you to catch the fish before being spooked. The same applies to fishing for calamari in shallow water and subsequently all styles of fishing for that matter.

The next time you’re hitting the water, slip on your spotters so you can spot the fish before they spot you.
