Race 1 of the Sydney Seaplanes NCYC Inner Spring Regatta was conducted off Newcastle in a 15 knot SE yesterday.
Line honours and first in PHS Division 1 went to Anthony Paterson’s borrowed 40 footer Farr Anger while Rob Howard’s Beneteau 40.7 Schouten Passage held out Graeme Hall’s Beneteau First 40 Close Halled and John Streeter’s Bull 9000 Wild Bull to lead the series on IRC in Division 1.
Greg Amos’s Grand Soliel 40 Blue Notte and Paul Gleeson’s Beneteau 34.7 lead Division 2 PHS and IRC standings, respectively.
Following a hotly contested start of Queens Wharf Brewery the fleet of 15 yachts enjoyed some tight racing on the windward leeward course set off Nobby’s beach which is most famously known as the temporary berthing spot for the Pasha Bulka during the June 2007 East coast low.
Racing continues with a mid-week social twilight pursuit race on Wednesday followed by two windward leeward races starting and finishing offshore next Sunday.
