The RC44 Sweden Cup will be the fourth round of the RC44 Championship Tour and is fast approaching its first day of racing in Marstand which is set for August 17th.

After an epic third event to the Championship Tour at the RC44 Cagliari Cup, where class veterans and new teams alike were put through their paces in the mistral conditions, the RC44 class moves on to the Swedish sailing mecca of Marstrand, with racing taking place from the 17-21 August on the same waters as the Stena Match Cup Sweden, earlier in the year.

'It means a lot for Sweden that we get another major international championship in sailing, it shows that we have a strong position in the world as a sailing organizer at the highest level, but it also allows us to attract young and new sailors to sail at top level', says Stefan Rahm, federal director of the Swedish Sailing Federation.

With four new teams joining the fleet since the series kicked off in San Diego five months ago, the RC44 Sweden Cup promises to be an exciting event with a fleet of fifteen boats battling in close competition for the title.

Located 40 minutes north-west of Gothenburg and with a reliable afternoon sea breeze and open sea to the west, the picturesque and beautiful island of Marstrand transforms from a quiet archipelago village into Sweden's most popular 'guest harbour’.

Magnus Augustson from RC44 Team CEEREF said 'I’m really looking forward to the RC44 Sweden Cup, Marstrand is a small island outside the Archipelago in Sweden normally with a very good sea breeze. It’s a nice place for the class to hold an event both on the water and on the Island; it’s going to be great to be back home. Marstrand has the potential to be as exciting as Cagliari, maybe not this much wind but there’s going be much rougher seas, which will throw up new challenges for the teams, it will be a fantastic event.'

Joining the RC44 Championship Tour in Marstrand will be a local sailing team racing an RC44 for this event only. More information to be announced shortly.
