Mid-winter in Australia - here are some photos from the 22nd annual Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week, in the Whitsundays on the Great Barrier Reef.
This is the first of three regattas in the northern tropics, on the Queensland Coast. This 130 boat regatta which finishes on Thursday next, will be followed by the 190 boat Audi Hamilton Island Race Week and then a week later the final event will be the 5th annual SeaLink Magnetic Island regatta, with around 80 boats on the startline.
This is trade wind sailing at its best. Winds of 12-25 knots from the south- east.
Winter air daytime temperatures in these northern waters are in the 23.5-29 centigrade range 74-84 farenheit.
