Canadian Sailors Win Chicago Mackinac Cup

Canadian sailors aboard C&C 43 Usual Suspect win Chicago Mackinac Cup in the 103rd Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, presented by Veuve Clicquot, finished on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 09:10:20 with an elapsed time of 44:40:20 and a corrected time of 39:32:05!
Winning both Section 6 and the Chicago Mackinac Cup, the nine-crew members of Usual Suspect thankfully weathered the storm and landed safely on beautiful Mackinac Island Monday morning! The crew included owner Bryan Sims, along with John Estey, Susan Fraser, Thomas Gayford, Kyle Higgins, Tom Higgins, Peter Kirkwood, Mike Ogelvie and Beata Sims.
En route to the Chicago Mackinac Cup, Usual Suspect stopped off in Cleveland, Ohio to race in the Cleveland Race Week Regatta, hosted by the Edgewater Yacht Club. Four heavy air races and two light air races were run during which Usual Suspect recorded 1,1,1,1,1, (2) in the PHRF III division for the lowest point score of any boat winning the overall regatta.
In Section 6, Usual Suspect was followed closely by Bozos Circus, a J35 owned by Bruce Metcalf from Burr Ridge, IL whose corrected time was 40:54:37 and Aftershock, also a J35, owned by William M. Newman from Muskegon, MI USA whose corrected time was 41:54:51, putting them second and third respectively.
In the Mackinac Cup, Usual Suspect was followed by Fast Tango (winner of Section 7), a North American 40, owned by Tim Prophit and Peter Wenzler from Grosse Pointe Park, MI whose corrected time was 40:37:14 and Cynthia (winner of Section 8), owned by Andrew Grootendorst & James B DeVries from Coloma, MI whose corrected time was 40:38:08, putting them second and third respectively.
