Cruising Rally in the Canary Islands - the ultimate in exotica

by Nancy Knudsen on 10 Aug 2011
Artist Cesar Manriqui’s design for Lanzarote: white houses with blue trim (for seaside) or green trim(for country) makes the island into a living work of art. SW
Maybe you're a pretty experienced sailor and you've sailed in lots of magic places, but here's one that you may not have experienced. A cruising rally in the Canary Islands could fulfill many dreams even for the well-experienced roving sailor - fantastic anchorages, interesting overnight sails, exotic touring in active volcanic lands. It's run by Sunsail in F40s, developed from the Beneteau First 40 specially for Sunsail.

What better way to experience the Canary Islands than cruising in company from Island to Island?

The Cruising Rally takes in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife over a two week period, and includes four free sailing days giving you the chance to explore the amazing islands on land or water.

You will sail in company with other yachts, experiencing a mix of short island hops and long distance passages with one overnight passage.

The Sunsail F40 is based and developed on the Beneteau First 40 and is the ultimate in performance racer, having won Crossover boat of the year in 2009 as well as in the same year taking both first and second in the IRC division of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart race, making these boats very much proven performers.

The yachts come as a three cabin, single head layout and have a large wheel, spacious open cockpit and large sail plan ideally suited to all sailing activities. In addition to the standard specifications the yachts also come with heating, chartplotter and autopilot.

The yachts are sailing from the UK for the rallies, and it is also possible to join the sail from the UK to the Canaries, departing on 22nd October. There will be at least two departures of the rallies, in December 2011 and January 2012, before the yachts return to the UK again, arriving by 10th March 2012. While in the Canaries, the yachts will be based at Marina Rubicon, a very modern facility on the island of Lanzarote.

Don't want to charter a yacht yourself? Not experienced? You can also apply to join as an individual. For all information contact your local Sunsail representative.
