For a few weekends in August, the calm straits of Johor turn into a fierce arena as racers, cruisers, catamarans, Moths, dinghies and even radio controlled boats all make their way to the West of Singapore to compete in the 14th SMU-RM Western Circuit Sailing Regatta.
Held on the sixth, seventh, 13th, 14th and 20th of August, at the prestigious Raffles Marina, this regatta has expanded over the years and with 62 entries in total last year, has truly become one of the largest keelboat regattas in Singapore.
Co-organized by the energetic students from the Singapore Management University (SMU) and the hard working professionals from Raffles Marina (RM), this regatta is the talk of the sailing community as the infamous South-West Monsoon rolls in. You can expect good winds, better sailing, fantastic post-race parties and an awesome atmosphere. And that’s even before you get to the beer.
Need more reasons to head down for three weekends of action-packed, enjoyable fun? The Western Circuit Regatta is committed to giving back to the community and has done so by naming Sailability Singapore, a non-profit organization that through the activity of sailing enriches the lives of people with any type of disability, the elderly, and the financially and socially disadvantaged as their beneficiary once again. Last year, a total of $20,000 was raised for Sailability ensuring that the foundation will continue to share the joys of sailing with the less fortunate.
