Yanmar supplies Haultech with Air-Con Power

The Brisbane based company, Haultech Engineering, has nominated Yanmar’s L series engine as an engine of choice for their exceptional Icepack sleeper cab air conditioning system.

The Icepack has been in production for 16 years and demand is stronger than ever. Truckies throughout Australia appreciate the real benefits of having an air conditioning system hooked up to the sleeper cab on a prime mover. Whether in the hot and dusty outback, or anywhere on an interstate run between Australia’s capital cities, the temperature inside a sleeper cab can easily hit 50° C during summer. Icepack is the solution.

The Icepack was developed by Haultech as a self contained, highly compact air conditioning system. The unit is retro fitted to the chassis of the prime mover and is designed to operate when the truck stops at a road side rest zone.

'The engine that powers the Icepack needs to be quiet, fuel efficient, compact and powerful,' said Charles Inder of Haultech.

'We have fitted the Yanmar L series diesel engine from time to time but the new generation L series is a whole new beast. Yanmar engineers have configured the single cylinder engine to run quieter than ever and smoother in operation.'

'Because the Yanmar revs slower than competitive brands, and because it is smaller we have decided to re-introduce it into our production runs.'

The Yanmar delivers on all the key attributes demanded by Haultech. Low noise levels when operating is an absolute must, particularly with other trucks often parked nearby.

And the engine needs to be robust. The vibration experienced on the prime mover while powering along a highway at 100 km/h is quite incredible. An engine that is anything but extremely robust will not last, so thankfully the Yanmar L series is built tough and strong for this kind of work.

The Icepack is an engineering work of art. Within the carrier frame fits the Yanmar L series engine, alternator, compressor and muffler. The entire package is covered and sealed with an aluminium tread plate cover.

'We have worked with the Haultech engineers for quite some time to deliver a power source that meets their needs,' said Geoff Tickle of Power Equipment, the Australian Distributor for Yanmar diesel engines.

'Our new generation of Yanmar L series, single cylinder air-cooled diesel engines have proven to be more than suited to the task with the Icepack. We are seeing an ever increasing number of Yanmar powered Icepacks going into prime movers with zero problems.'
