Over fifty participants participated in the US Junior Sailing Championships - Area E held at Youngstown Yacht Club just outside the mouth of the Niagara River with Radials, 420s, and J/22s. PRO Peter Doyle was pleased with the turnout.
Winds topped over 20 knots on Saturday with huge waves, which made the 5 races a test of endurance for the young sailors. Sunday brought very light winds and the left over swell from the day before. Racing was abandoned for the day at 13:00 due to flat seas.
33 boats participated from Area E yacht clubs which included the Buffalo Canoe Club, Detroit YC, Put-in-Bay, Edgewater YC, North Cape YC, Youngstown YC, Erie YC, Pontiac, Mentor Harbour, Hoover YC, Berlin YC, Bayview YC, Eagle Creek, Crescent Sailing Club, and Sandusky.
Connor Godfrey was awarded the prestigious Judge's Award for outstanding sportsmanship.
