Audi Hamilton Island Race Week - Leave your yacht at home

by Rob Mundle on 27 Jul 2011
Sunsail SW
You can leave your yacht at home and still compete at Australia’s premier keelboat regatta, Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, next month.

All you need to do is get your crew together and charter a yacht that is waiting for you at Hamilton Island.

Charter yachts are a significant part of the great success of Race Week, both in the cruising and non-spinnaker cruising divisions. The competition these crews enjoy can be as keen as you will find in any division, and the camaraderie between the competitors is second to none.

The 28th Audi Hamilton Island Race Week is scheduled for 19 – 25 August, and nearly 170 yachts have already registered to compete, 30 of these being charter yachts.

Sunsail, which operates exclusively at Hamilton Island, still has three yachts available for charter for Race Week, two Sunsail 41s and an impressive Sunsail 53.

Should you grab this opportunity you will find yourself sailing on some of the most beautiful island-laced tropical waters in the world, while on shore you will be socialising with some of the legends of sailing along with well-known celebrities. Regatta organisers aren’t saying just yet who these ‘celebs’ are – there are some surprises to come – but it is known that Audi Ambassadors like internationally acclaimed fashion designer Collette Dinnigan, chefs Shannon Bennet and Matt Moran, plus television stars Sandra Sully and Catriona Rowntree, will be among them. Last year
Danni Minogue was one of the surprise visitors for Race Week.

So, if you want to be in the middle of the fun scene on shore and the sailing scene on the water at Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, you can still be there sailing the next best thing to your own boat – with your friends.

The Notice of Race, including the entry form, has been posted on the regatta website

Hamilton Island Race Week’s naming rights sponsor, luxury car maker Audi, is Australia’s largest corporate sponsor of yachting.

Race Week accommodation can be booked at www.hamiltonislandraceweek.com.au
