Yacht clubs from around the province and the United States have descended upon Port Credit Yacht Club for the 53rd annual Steerer's Regatta for Junior Sailing Schools on July 14th and 15th.
Organizing this regatta are veterans Marilee McAllister and Ethel Thayer and her tremendous crew of volunteers from many of the near-by yacht clubs. It is their job to organize over 400 young sailors. To be exact, 412 young people from 30 yacht clubs including: Port Credit YC, Royal Canadian YC, Nationa YC, Ashbrige's Bay YC, Barrie YC, Britannia YC, Brockville SC, Bronte Harbour YC, Burlington Sailing & BC, Etobicoke YC, Fanshaw SC, Toronto Sailing & CC, Stoney Lake, Sail Perry Sound, Royal Hamilton YC, Frenchmen's Bay YC, Kingston YC, Napean SC, Oakville YS, Whitby YC, Boulevard Club, Bay of Quinte YC, Conestoga SC, Lake of Bays SC, Niagara-on-the Lake SC, Buffalo Canoe Club, and Youngston YC.
Beautiful sunny skies greeted the sailors this morning, but not much wind. All three race courses were able to get at least one race in on the first day of racing.
