P1 SuperStock USA Championship 2011 was held in Madison, USA on the banks of the Ohio River between 1st and 3rd July.

Powerboat P1 successfully launched its P1 SuperStock USA Championship in front of an estimated 50,000 crowd at the Madison Regatta, Indiana last weekend, paving the way for further international expansion in 2012 and beyond.

Five new P1 Panther boats ran at the head of the SuperStock USA races. On Saturday P1 SuperStock USA staged the first ever one-on-one match races, won by the Team Oregon Custom Marine entry of Randy Schleuss/Colby Lawrence.

The first mass start endurance SuperStock race was won on Sunday by Schleuss/Colby from the Miss Madison boat driven by Paul Gallup and Kyle Dietzer. The start grid was revered for race two, meaning Team Oregon Custom Marine had to start from the disadvantage of an outside lane, allowing Miss Madison to jump into an early lead it never relinquished. On aggregated scores Miss Madison won the Madison Regatta trophy and took home the Governor’s Cup for the P1 Panther class.

Also making the podium was the JD Byrider boat piloted by Mark Kowalski and son Cody Kowalski who finished third overall on the weekend.

Visiting from Powerboat P1’s London HQ was Chief Operating Officer Robert Wicks, who said: 'Hot on the heels of the world racing debut of the new P1 Panther in the UK it was an important landmark to see the boat race internationally. The weekend was also a very encouraging start for the P1 SuperStock USA teams who can all see the series has potential grow.'

Upwards of 50,000 fans were on hand to watch the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Series ably supported by the USA debut of the new P1 SuperStock Series. P1 Superstock USA boss Martin Sanborn added: 'H1 provides a fantastic stage for us to present SuperStock and the new P1 Panther to a large community of powerboat racers and although we started with a modest number of boats we can all see massive potential.'

The P1 SuperStock Championship returns next weekend at the Detroit Gold Cup, where organisers are working around the clock to boost the starting grid to seven or possibly eight Panther boats.

Powerboat P1 is currently in negotiation with promoters in Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, Far East and South America as it seeks to create sustainable national championships around the world, where drivers and teams can compete in a cost controlled P1 Superstock Championship website
