Gentlemen, start the Frauscher 717 GT's engine

There's power aplenty in the well-balanced, shaft-driven hull. Premier Marine
Behind every great man’s decision to buy a boat there’s usually a woman, but that’s not necessarily the case with the new Frauscher 717 GT.

This is every inch the 'Gentleman’s Racer', styled from a classic 1930s racer with a contemporary edge. So contemporary, in fact, that it was awarded Best European Power Boat for 2010 and would get a guernsey on any new James Bond flick.

Sydney’s Premier Marine will be unleashing the Frauscher at Sydney International Boat Show for the first time, though the family owned Austrian company has been building since 1927.

The 717 GT blends blistering performance with striking design and luxury fittings to create, arguably, the ultimate day cruiser. Unique features include teak deck, white leather waterproof upholstery, frameless windscreen and a sporty yet traditional dash.

The motor is mid-mounted for better balance (not to mention aesthetics) and has a shaft propulsion system. In concert with a radical hull shape, it affords the kind of driving pleasure you’d expect from a European sports car.

Given that it would be perfectly at home on pristine lakes, it comes with a range of petrol and diesel engines as well as the option to fit a hybrid motor. On the hybrid, the internal combustion engines kick in with a simple twist of the ignition key.

This choice of power means fuel savings, no on-board generator, easy manoeuvring and, above all, no emissions.
