2011 Costa Teguise Lanzarote World Cup is the most anticipated leg of the PWA World Tour.

The Canary Islands events are the most eagerly anticipated leg of the PWA World Tour; offering a variety of challenging conditions. The exposed sailing area’s combine powerful swells, flat water and relentless wind, providing the perfect playground for windsurfing’s elite to fight it out for first place.

The enchanting town of Costa Teguise on Lanzarote’s Eastern Coast is set to host freestyle’s crème de la crème as they embark on round five of the 2011 world tour. Boasting consistent trade winds, scorching sun and ruffled water’s, La Chucharas beach attracts windsurfers from all over Europe. Expect to see a combination of explosive aerial and sliding maneuvers as the sailors take advantage of the incredible conditions.

A four day freestyle show down, launching into action on June 30 - July 03 2011, featuring the elite of the men’s PWA freestyle discipline going head to head for a share of the event’s €30,000 prize purse, and crucial mid-season points towards the overall tour rankings.

Fresh from battle in the Caribbean the points are tied at the top, the aerial king Kiri Thode (Starboard / Gaastra) and European freestyle wizard Steven Van Broeckhoven (F2 / Gaastra) each hold two event titles on the 2011 tour, expect to see the arch rivals going hell for leather in an attempt to win the judges affections.

Yet to secure an event victory on the 2011 world tour, four times world champion Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North) is likely to take advantage in the tough Canary Island conditions, to make his return to number one.

The double master Davy Scheffers (Tabou / Gaastra) will be on the hunt to return to the top positions, after a tough draw in Aruba saw his early demise from the competition. Scheffers will be looking to use Lanzarote to cover up any mistakes.

Bonaire stylists, Taty Frans (Starboard / MauiSails / Mystic) and Tonky Frans (Tabou /Gaastra), will be heading to the island to unleash their most outrageous gravity defying maneuvers in an effort to break into the top three.

The consistent Canadian Phil Soltysiak (Starboard / Dakine) will be displaying his flair, giving it everything he has got in a bid to make it into the top five.

Also in the mix, up and coming hot shot Dieter Van Der Eyken (Starboard / Severne)has been delivering consistent scores throughout the 2011 season and currently sits in eighth, watch out for Van Der Eyken as he continues to ruffle the feathers at the top.

French freestyle icon’s Anthony Ruenes (Tabou / Simmer) and Nicolas Akgazciyan (Starboard / Gun) famous for their technical ability will be ready for war in order to defend their positions in the top ten.

Lanzarote will also witness the debut performance from Brit, Phil Richards (Fanatic /Severne). Keep an eye on Richard’s as he attempts to make his mark in battle against the worlds’ best.

Keep your eyes peeled from 30 June, as history has proven the Canary Islands are a catalyst for innovation, expect to see new moves, shake’s ups at the top and an array of acrobatic excellence from the world’s finest freestylers. The skippers’ meeting is planned for 10-12am, with a first possible start at 2pm.

The Transat CIC off to a spectacular start
