The Women’s Match Racing event saw some exceptional competition throughout Kiel Week, with tight challenges, close raising and the early exit of top performers.

It ended in fine fashion for Ekaterina Skudina as she won her second consecutive Kieler Week gold medal. Skudina and her Russian team Elena Oblova and Elena Syuzeva defeated Nicky Souter and her Australian team (Jessica Eastwell and Lucinda Whitty) 3-1 in the exciting the finals to win the 2011 Kieler Woche Women’s Match Racing event. Olivia Price (AUS) (Nina Curtis and Katie Abbott) defeated Genny Tulloch (USA) (Alice Leonard and Jenn Chamberlin) 2-0 to take the Bronze.

The match racing event has been a thrilling part of Sailing World Cup. Six women’s match racing events were sailed at six different venues across the globe culminating in the final event in Kiel. As was the case in 2010, the competition was intense at all of the events with all six events being won by six different teams. This continues to show the depth in the field of this exciting Olympic sailing event making it’s debut at the 2012 London Olympics.

Anna Tunnicliffe (USA) and her Team Maclaren have comfortably won the 2011 ISAF World Cup. With five strong finishes at the events finishing: second Miami, third Hyeres, third Delta Lloyd, first Weymouth Sail For Gold. Tunnicliffe finished fifth at Kieler week taking her World Cup points to 91 points. Tunnicliffe took the title ahead of Silja Lehtinen (FIN), second on 76 points, and Sally Barkow (USA), third on 75 points.

A great way to end the season for Team MacLaren.

After an intense battle fought by 22 nations, throughout the Sailing World Cup events the following countries have qualified to send teams to the Women's Match Racing Event at the Olympic Test Event (Weymouth and Portland International Regatta 2011) in August: GBR, USA, FIN, RUS, FRA, NED, AUS, GER, NZL, SWE, ESP,and DEN
