Cutting-edge launch planned for Sabre 40

To mark the Australian debut of the new Sabre 40 Sedan at next month’s Sydney International Boat Show, buyers will receive an iPad 2 loaded with information pertaining to the boat and a full suite of Garmin electronics including two GPSMAP 5215 large-screen chartplotters, a GMR 24HD radar and VHF marine radio.

Valued at over $15,000, the electronics package is being thrown in for free.

It’s a decidedly high-tech approach to marketing a vessel that was styled and built in the Maine ‘downeast’ motoryacht tradition, yet sports a modern high-performance hull with infusion construction and Zeus pod drives for the twin 380hp Cummins diesels.

Expat Aussie Bentley Collins, who’s now Sabre Yachts’ USA-based vice president for marketing and sales, will also attend the Sydney International Boat Show for the Sabre 40’s launch.

Internally, the Sabre 40 is rendered with cherrywood bulkheads, teak floorboards and elegant upholstery.

Accommodation comprises a large owner’s stateroom, double guest cabin and a head compartment with separate shower cubicle. The electric galley is positioned between the cabins and saloon deck – part of the social area but below the line of vision when underway.

Space saved through the use of Zeus drives allows for long-distance cruising additions such as a washing machine, watermaker or additional storage. A 9kW generator is fitted as standard.

The saloon deck is the main social area with seating around a drop-down table, built-in entertainment systems and all-round views through large upright windows. The cherrywood interior is continued through here, along with the solid teak flooring and ultra-leather upholstery.

This area opens out to a spacious cockpit.

The Sabre 40 has a deep vee and flared bow that allows it to run at almost 32 knots offshore. The Zeus pods naturally use less horsepower than traditional shafts and also feature the Skyhook system for GPS-linked automated position holding.

The show vessel will be finished in Flag Blue and include such features as an opening sunroof, cockpit icemaker and BBQ as well as teak-laid cockpit and swim platform.
