Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 will make a stop in Sanya, China. This comes after the Chinese city of Sanya held a press conference in Beijing this past Friday, celebrating the stopover.
There were a variety of great names from the Chinese Government along with actors and actresses, Chinese sailors, the Chinese Yachting Association and members as well as media representatives attended the event in Sun Park, central Beijing.
The speakers focused on China’s growth in tourism and recreation and the future plans for sailing and watersports in the country. The city of Sanya aims to promote itself through the Volvo Ocean Race as a top international tourist destination and local dignitaries spoke of the benefits the race will bring to the province and China as a whole.
Hu Jing, the famous Chinese actress and Hu Dong, a former Olympic rower and celebrated actor spoke of their excitement for the Volvo Ocean Race and hoped to visit the stopover next February.
The event was heralded a great success with over 90 journalists from all sectors of the media attending the press conference, gaining widespread media coverage for the Sanya stopover and the Volvo Ocean Race.
