The 2002 Rolex Sydney Hobart race proved again the outstanding performance of Doyle Fraser Sails and the Australian developed D4 sail system with the overall winner in IMS and IRC together with wins in IMS Class A and every class ( A, B and C) under IRC.
Quest overall winner (IMS)
Capping of a great year, the Nelson Marek 46 Quest is declared Overall winner of the 2002 Rolex Sydney-Hobart race. Congratulations to Bob Steel, regular helmsman and loft representative Mike Green and his crew who have completely dominated Australian Offshore racing this year. Quest has finished the year with a list of outstanding successes including current Australian IMS champion, overall winner Hamilton Island Race Week and overall winner of Sydney – Mooloolaba race.
Quest has a complete inventory of Doyle Fraser D4 Carbon sails. A new Offshore mainsail was built for the Sydney – Hobart race; all the other sails have been used throughout these successful campaigns.
Starlight Express overall winner (IRC)
Congratulations to New Zealander Stewart Thwaites and his crew aboard the Davidson 55 Starlight Express, overall winner under IRC. Starlight Express used all Doyle sails that included D4 Offshore mainsail and D4 headsails. The predominantly New Zealand crew included expat Kiwi and Sydney loft representative, Robbie Greer
Redrock Communications takes out IRC, class C
Congratulations also to the smaller winners using Doyle Fraser and D4 in this years race. Chris Bowling and crew had an outstanding race winning class in the Robert Hick designed 30 footer Redrock Communications.
It’s been a good 6 months!
These outstanding results follow other significant results both here and overseas. On the local scene, Syd Fischer’s Farr 50 Ragamuffin won the British Trophy Series (IMS) with Howard De Torres’ Nips’n Tux in 2nd Place.
One Design edge!
Australian Farr 40 OD champion Richard Perini sailing Corinthian Doors used D4 sails to win the JP Morgan Regatta while Barry Moore’s Blowfly won the Sydney 38 class for a second consecutive year in a tight battle against 16 other boats. An outstanding success considering Blowfly was the first Sydney 38 ever launched, and her D4 sails were the original sails made for that class, proving once again the durability, performance and value with D4.
A little further afield Doyle Asia representative Warwick Downes and crew followed on from their wins in the Singapore Straits Regatta and Presidents Cup, winning the Raja Muda International Regatta and China Coast Cup during November in the Sydney 38 Stella .
Wishing you a happy and successful 2003.
