RS100 High Performance Single hander - Australian fleets grow

The first RS100 hit Australian waters back in September 2010, in the seven months since the exciting single hander has experienced steady growth. Boats have spread out across Australia into locations such as Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Cairns and Perth.

With thousand's of kilometres separating these locations it has been a challenge to get multiple RS100’s on the water until last weekend and what better place than at the annual Batemans Bay regatta, located on the picturesque south coast of NSW.

The Batemans Bay regatta catered for a broad spectrum of boats; from Trailer sailors to off the beach dinghies and catamarans,. Two RS100s sailed in Division 2 racing against Contenders, Fireballs, NS14’s under the Victorian Yardstick handicap system. This fleet also raced on the same course as Cherubs, Tasers and Lasers.

Australia’s first RS100 AUS245 was raced by Fred Kasparek from Canberra and sailing AUS246 was Nathan Ellis from Performance Sailcraft (Australia’s RS Distributor).

The RS100s fitted well into the high performance fleet of 44 boats, often hitting the lead after some great downwind rides. With wide range of conditions over four races the RS100s sailed into first and fifth place in Division 2 of the regatta.

The RS100 concept was well received by all competitors with plenty of talk on the water and in the boat park about this new, exciting style of sailing.

With momentum building the Australian owners have agreed to, where possible, get together at the following upcoming events and there is expected to be minimum of four and possibly up to ten RS100s at each of these events.

Whitsunday Easter Regatta – Easter 2011 – Airlie Beach
May Day Regatta - first weekend May 2011 – Tinaroo, Cairns
Brass Monkey Regatta - Late August 2011 - Sydney Harbour
Single Handed Regatta – early October 2011 - Lake Macquarie
Canberra Dinghy Regatta - late October 2011 - Lake Burly Griffin
