Light winds for SR26 Nationals

by Event Media on 15 Apr 2011
Startline action, 2011 SR 26 Nationals, Buckland’s Beach SW

Conditions were light and shifty for the 2011 Sr26 National Champs held form BBYC on the ninth and 10th of April, Yet Teresa and her team of helpers managed to squeeze in 8 tight races over the two days to deliver a great regatta for all involved.

Saturday’s racing looked like a non-event until a little breeze filled right on the 3pm cut off time agreed and the team jumped into action to get 4 more windward leeward races quickly punched out in time to get back to the dock and start the well know SR26 Social Party on Saturday night.

Racing was tight with any mistakes proving costly, and the team on Rattle N Rum led by Richie Watson pulled out their usual flawless performance to take the regatta out after going into the second day on a level tie with a very much improved Gaucho (Eric Haagh. The regatta ended with the top three boats having only 4 points between them after 8 races.

Finishing results were: first Rattle N Rum, second Gaucho, third Mercenary, 4th Markone, fifth Trainsmash, sixth New force with the girls on New force winning on handicap results after a great improvement throughout the regatta.

Big Thanks goes out to Teresa and her team of helpers – Hamish, Andrew and Gary for being in the chase boats laying marks, and to Mt Gay Rum for sponsoring the dock party and prizes, Burnsco Marine, North Sails and to PIC Marine Insurance for the spot prize won by Mercenary.
