The NSW Secondary Schools Teams Racing Championship was held from Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd April at Woollahra Sailing Club. Sailing in Pacers, ten teams from nine schools put on a magnificent display of sailing.

The three day event had testing conditions ranging from abandonments due to lack of wind through to 20 knot southerlies and everything in between.

Principle Race Officer Col Chidgey and the Woollahra Sailing club Race Management team conducted 75 races over the three days which was a fantastic effort given the testing conditions.

Saturday’s southerly blow had an opportunity to be a fantastic day on the water, however boat breakdowns and carnage saw racing abandoned at 3.00pm until Sunday. Saturday evening saw the Race Committee making a number of repairs so that racing could continue on Sunday morning.

Racing was always close and teams were jumping up and down the leader board after every flight. The top four teams had two points difference with the medals being decided on a countback.

Cranbrook won the event on eleven points with The Scots College, Knox 1 and Abbotsleigh all on ten points. Second place went to The Scots College and third place going to the Knox 1 team.

All Teams should be proud of the way they raced and conducted themselves over the weekend.

It was also fantastic to see two new schools enter the Championship for the first time. St Ignatius College, Riverview and Brigidine College both raced very well and were both very competitive.

Thank you to all of the umpires and volunteers that helped over the weekend. Like all regattas the volunteers are the key component to make regatta’s function.

By Winning the NSW Teams Racing Championship, Cranbrook and The Scots College now have the opportunity to represent NSW at the 2011 Australian Schools Teams Racing Championship to be held at the South of Perth Yacht Club in July.

Yachting NSW is proudly supported by Nautilus Marine, Steve Jarvin Motors, Tohatsu, Gill, GME and Communities NSW.
