Royal Southampton Yacht Club Spring Series Races 3 and 4

Royal Southampton Yacht Club Spring Series first race was started on a beautiful spring day. Everyone managed to get up in time after the clocks had gone forward. For race three, a gentle north-easterly required a start in the vicinity of Royal Southampton buoy but the start was delayed by shipping.

All got away first time on a windward leeward course cascading down Southampton Water with the tide and a reach back to the start. The wind was shifty on the Netley shore but Hoolinkazan clearly had the best of them in Class One, winning by about one minute in the one hour race. Class Two was dominated by Glass Onion after a superb start. These club handicap results were mirrored on IRC rating, so our handicap committee had been doing something right.

Race four saw the starting order change with Class Two away whilst the last Class One boat was finishing. The breeze was holding at just over five knots, with some holes particularly over at Netley. A sausage course – twice round this time saw Glass Onion repeat her earlier luck/success but Hoolinkazan edged out by Jammin and ‘Rum & Cork’ who are new to our racing.

And with the last boat finishing at almost exactly 1300 there was time for the bar.
