Smart New Elan 210 – Twin Rudders / Lifting Keel

by Gael Moldan on 15 Mar 2011
New Elan 210 with keelup - New Elan Model 210 Elan Sports
Elan’s new 210 is a clever sailing package. She’s small, ingeniously designed and packs a lot in her 21ft with looks that promise great fun.

Elan’s decision to ‘think small’ and premiere their 210 model prototype at the recent Dusseldorf Boat Show was enthusiastically received and saw the entire initial programmed production run taken up with orders.

In this day and age for those looking for great sailing with a smaller budget in mind, the 210 looks set to have a welcoming place in the market.

More than just an entry level boat the new 210 is a logical extension of the ground breaking production yacht features seen on her larger and very successful sister models, the 310 and 350.

Small maybe in size, but with the design hand of Rob Humphreys’, the new model promises to deliver the fast and responsive punch to satisfy the racer in the sailor. And in the true nature of the Elan Cruiser Racer ethos, the boat offers welcomed comfort and space for day sailing and overnighting as well.

The 210 is full of great features with twin rudders, chined hull and retractable performance T- keel which reduces the draft from 1.55m to 0.5m making the boat suitable for the more shallow waters or for some even trailerable.

The sail plan is generous while the beamy hull provides a generous cockpit; the single centre-positioned tiller controls the twin rudders adding to stability, with halyards, reef lines and jib controls all leading back to the pit area.

Centrally located below the cockpit floor is the very smart Option of a 6hp four- stroke outboard engine fixed to a hinged frame for ease of deployment and retraction thus giving the benefits of a sail-drive.

Below deck, the layout is simple yet highly functional and sleeps four comfortably providing a galley with Optional single burner cooker, sink and icebox as well as a cleverly concealed WC area.

Elan Importer, Navsail believe the 210 which could be easily stored on the hard, will be a popular boat to boost the keen and budget conscious sailor on the water in a boat of their own and with family.

The model also offers the advantage of cost and versatility to Yacht Clubs as an ideal sail training yacht which easily doubles in multiples as an excellent and fun One - Class fleet.

The 210 will be officially launched along with a new cruising model in May at the Internautica Boat Show in Portoroz on the Adriatic coast of Slovenia where Navsail’s principals will attend and sail the boats with the international Elan Dealer network.
