Sigma 38 Offshore One Design Nationals action Paul Fenner
Sigma 38 sponsorship for 2011 is alive and well, That is for the evergreen Sigma 38 Class Association at least, with the announcement that specialist insurance brokers, Towergate Mardon, are to become Principal supporters of the Sigma 38 National Championships this May.

There is also additional backing from Ocean Safety, North Sails, RS Divers and the Wine Gift Centre, the Association reports a record levels of interest in the Class which has also seen membership increase in recent years.

The 23rd Sigma 38 OOD National Championships will sailed under the burgee of the Portland Castle Sailing Club and are to be organised by the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, hosts for the 2012 Olympics. They will be setting demanding Olympic style courses over the three day event. True to the ethos of offshore one design, the fleet will also tackle a day long coastal race where tactical and navigational skills as much as sail and boat handling will be at a premium.

Towergate Mardon has over 30 years of experience in the marine industry and offers wide ranging cover for all types of craft including: yachts, fast fishers, sports boats, sports cruisers and motor cruisers, as well as smaller vessels such as canoes, dinghies and jet skis.

With their RYA qualified staff, they pride themselves on offering a personal level of service to all their customers. On the commercial side, they also provide wide ranging marine trade insurance for businesses such as self-employed marine engineers, RYA training centres, boat builders and manufacturers.
Sigma 38 Class Chairman Nigel Goodhew said 'In the past three years we’ve seen the participation rates in Sigma 38 one design racing, rise to levels not regularly seen this century. With the Olympics much in mind, there couldn’t be a better way to celebrate this resurgence of interest than to hold our National Championships, in Weymouth Bay.

We are delighted to welcome Towergate Mardon as our Principal sponsors as well as North Sails, RS Divers and the Wine Gift Centre. All our sponsors are enthusiastic about supporting this enduring British one design class which offers enjoyable and most importantly affordable, one design racing to such a wide spectrum of sailors from all levels of experience.'
