On Thursday, the restored scow, Jane Gifford arrived back in the Waitemata making the trip down from Warkworth where she has been restored, and lies at a berth in the town. She is believed to be the last of the original scows that traded in Auckland and around the Northland coast. Jane Gifford was joined by the Ted Ashby a replica scow and the Breeze built by Ralph Sewell.
The story of the restoration of the Jane Gifford and pictures of the various stages of construction can be seen by http://www.janegifford.org.nz/restoration.htm!clicking_here
Costs of the restoration were covered by some very generous donations, sponsorship and grants from from Pub Charity, SkyCity Community Trust, Rotary, ASB Trust, Lion Foundation, Perry Foundation, NZ Community Trust, New Zealand Lottery Grants Board and numerous local companies and residents. Families of those associated with the boat in past years have helped considerably.
This eight minute video follows Jane Gifford through her sail hoisting and sailing on the Waitemata
