Jeremy McIntyre Team Race update

On Saturday things started with warm temps, blue skies and no breeze. The breeze finally filled from the North and we started racing around noon.

The breeze was shifty finally settling into a NW direction. The RC did a good job of getting quality races off in tough conditions. The full round one was completed by six o' clock pm. We had a great group of umpires led by Dude One himself, Bryan McDonald. One yellow flag protest was heard resulting in a DSQ which changed a race score. Tomorrow we will attempt a top six and bottom four rounds followed by a final four knockout round. The forecast is for breeze and rain.

Sunday: Teams arrived to the boathouse in a light rain and no wind, But promptly at 10 am the breeze filled in from the south east at five-eight kts and racing was on. The plan for the day was to do a top six, bottom four rounds and then move into the Final four knockout. Racing was running smoothly, with some good shifty conditions but then the wind machine stopped for two hours and then refilled from the South with some solid breeze at ten knots.

However that two hour delay cost us some good racing time. We were only able to finish the top six and bottom four round. There was some good tight racing today with tight battles for places two-four.

A big thank you to Liz Bower (ODU) and the Stanford team for running races and a huge thank you to our umpires: Bryan McDonald, Viki Sodoro, John Christman, Don Wienike, Kevin Richards, Charlie Arms, and Eddie Conrad.

Jeremy McIntyre was a great Stanford Sailor, Captain, All American and person. He tragically passed away in a skiing accident in Whistler in 1999. This event is sailed in his memory. After sailing on saturday the whole regatta went to a dinner where friends and coaches of Jeremy told stories of his life. Jeremy is missed and it is great we all get together to remember him at this event every year.
