BIAV launches '50 Point Safety Check Program'

BIAV hopes the general public will make the 50 Point Safety Check part of their yearly maintenance routine. SW
As the peak body representing the recreational boating and fishing industry in Victoria, Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) is proud to announce the launch of its fantastic new initiative, the 50 Point Safety Check program. This aims to create a standard of safety check complemented in other states.
The 50 Point Safety Check program has been developed to encourage the general public to have their vessels checked to ensure they are safe before heading out on the water. The program is a great way to promote safe boating and to prevent incidents from occurring on Victoria’s waterways.
Currently, 10 BIAV members who are qualified to carry out these checks have agreed to become providers of this program. For a small fee, the general public can take their boat to one of these providers who will look over a 50 point list relating to the boat, trailer, safety equipment, motor and fuel to check the safety of the vessel. Owners will then be provided with recommendations based on the outcome of the check.
Clyde Batty, General Manager of BIAV is a strong advocate of this program, 'By having this safety check carried out on your vessel you can prevent unwanted breakdowns from occurring that could potentially ruin a great family day out'.
'Our members are reputable and trustworthy operators and are suitably qualified to spot what might be a relatively minor, but potential problem,' he added.
By implementing this program the BIAV hopes the general public will make the 50 Point Safety Check part of their yearly maintenance routine.
